The South Eastern Circuit is pleased to host an evening lecture on domestic abuse in the family justice system, bringing together Professor Jo Delahunty KC and Chloe Ashley, with a short contribution with a perspective from the Bench.

This will be a practical, cross disciplinary session focused on issues that routinely arise in cases with parallel family and criminal proceedings, and on what advocates can do to assist the court in managing and trying domestic abuse allegations fairly and effectively.

Focus of the Lecture

The session will concentrate on domestic abuse evidence, fact finding, and special measures, with particular emphasis on:

• The intersection with criminal proceedings
• Trauma informed advocacy
• Directions, timetabling, and special measures
