The Criminal Procedure Rules continue to shape how cases are prepared, managed and tried. This session will provide a clear update on the Criminal Procedure Rules 2025, focusing on where we are, what has changed, the rationale for those changes, and the practical consequences for day-to-day case management.

Clive Smith is a self-employed criminal barrister and lecturer. He teaches and trains on criminal advocacy, evidence, practice and procedure, and sentencing, and regularly delivers criminal practice CPD for practitioners.  Having been called to the Bar in 2003, Clive has spent half his time in practice (on the South Eastern Circuit) and half his time, now in Yorkshire, out of practice, teaching and training barristers, solicitors, and legal advisors.
