Lord Roger Toulson

I am sad to report that Lord Roger Toulson died last night. He had just retired in July as a House of Lords (Supreme Court) judge. I have known him since I was 15 years old. I in fact went to his silk's do and watched him then be better than nearly everyone in our field because he was fiercely bright and worked so damn hard- a scary and disarming combination. He was a great family man, husband, father and supporter of the Bar and humanity. His nickname "Two-brains-Toulson" was in truth one brain short. A superb and humane Judge and person at every level. His judgments read like prose. I was privileged to know him. We and our law are the richer for knowing him and the poorer for losing him.
