Kent Bar Mess

John FitzGerald, 6 Pump Court

Chris May, 5 St Andrew’s Hill

Whilst never a member of any other mess, I would say that the Kent Bar Mess is one of the most thriving in the country.  This is best illustrated by the success of its annual dinner year after year.  Last year saw nearly 90 attendees to dinner in Gray’s Inn with 3 High Court Judges, the High Sheriff as well as many members of the Kent judiciary and bar.  We enjoyed speeches from the Chairman, the Junior and our guest speaker Mr Justice Spencer, whose ‘Trump-based’ speech went down a storm!  The dinner is typically on the last Friday of November or the 1st Friday of December.  The dinner this year will be on the 1st of December 2017 at Inner Temple’s Parliament Chamber.

The Kent Bar Mess also has regular smaller scale events in both the court centres it covers. Just before Christmas a gathering was organised to celebrate the appointment of HHJ Lowe who is now settled in in court 7 at Canterbury, despite hailing from Bristol.

The mess also tries to provide lectures and seminars to contribute towards our annual CPD burden.

The mess hopes that in 2017 it will be able encourage more younger members of the Bar to join its ranks.  Those wishing to do so should contact
